About
Full Name: Nicholas Pooran
Born: October 2, 1995 (Trinidad & Tobago)
Batting Style: Left-hand bat
Role: Wicketkeeper-batsman
Teams: West Indies, Trinidad & Tobago, Lucknow Super Giants (IPL), various T20 franchises globally
Nicholas Pooran emerged as a schoolboy prodigy, shattering records at a young age before announcing himself on the big stage with a fearless, attacking batting style. A left-handed stroke-maker and capable wicketkeeper, Pooran made headlines at just 16 when he became the youngest player to feature in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2013, scoring a sensational 54 off 24 balls for Trinidad Red Steel.
He reinforced his credentials at the 2014 U19 World Cup, where he amassed 303 runs in six matches and was one of the tournament's standout performers. However, a near-fatal car accident and chronic ankle injury shortly after derailed his rise, sidelining him for nearly two years.
Pooran returned strongly in the 2016 CPL, scoring 217 runs in eight matches, earning his international debut later that year against Pakistan. But controversy followed when he chose franchise cricket over domestic duties, resulting in a 10-month ban from Cricket West Indies.
A career-defining revival came in 2018 at the Global T20 Canada league, where Pooran starred for CWI-B and forced his way back into the West Indies setup. From there, he has grown into one of the West Indies' most dangerous white-ball players, known for his aggressive middle-order hitting, fearless approach, and flexibility in multiple T20 leagues.
Pooran continues to be a key figure in modern T20 cricket, combining flair with power, and remains an integral part of West Indies’ limited-overs plans as well as a highly sought-after name in global franchise cricket.
