About

Born on November 30, 1991, Nasir Hossain is a right handed batsman who also tweaks off-breaks. He was drafted into the Bangladesh U-19 squad at the age of 16 and has a reasonable record an all-rounder in the domestic league. He performed impressively in the U-19 triangular tournament in 2008 scoring a fine 61 against India. Nasir is a big fan of Pakistani great Mohammad Yousuf and hopes to emulate his batting style.

As is the case with young Bangladeshi players, Nasir was picked for the ODI series against Zimbabwe and showed a calm head in scoring 63 on his debut to rescue Bangladesh from a wobbly 58/6. His knock went in vain as Zimbabwe won by seven wickets. In the final game of the five-match series, Nasir accidentally injured Zimbabwe fast bowler Keegan Meth. Nasir drove a delivery from Meth straight back and the bowler was unable to get out of the way. He was struck in the mouth, knocking out three teeth.

After the ODI series loss to Zimbabwe, Bangladesh hosted West Indies in October 2011 for a T20I, 2 ODIs and 2 Tests. In the 2nd ODI, Nasir scored his 2nd ODI fifty, when Bangaldesh were struggling on a difficult wicket. He took his first wicket in ODIs in the last match. When Pakistan toured Bangladesh in November, Nasir scored his maiden ODI ton in the second ODI.

When the Bangladesh Premier League was started in 2012, he was snapped up in the auction by Khulna Royals Bengal for 200,000 USD. In April 2012, he was awarded a central contract by BCB for the first time.

He scored his maiden Test hundred against Sri Lanka at Galle on March 11 2013. In the ODI series of the same tour, he scored a terrific knock of 73 off just 59 balls in the 1st match. There has been a dip in his form in the last two months, but he is one of the exciting young all-rounders for Bangladesh.

Nasir was part of the squad that failed to qualify to the knock-out stages of the 2014 World T20. They got through to the Super 10's but failed to go further. He was also in and out of the team for his inconsistent performances. Nasir performed poorly on the tour to West Indies and was not included in the side for the series against Zimbabwe. However, he was later named in the 15-man World Cup squad.
