SRH sign Ambrish as replacement for injured Mavi

Sunrisers Hyderabad have bolstered their squad for the ongoing IPL 2026 season by signing promising India Under-19 allrounder RS Ambrish as a replacement for the injured Shivam Mavi. The franchise secured Ambrish at his base price of INR 30 lakh after Mavi was ruled out of the tournament with a groin injury.

Mavi, who was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 75 lakh during the auction, did not feature in a single match this season before his injury setback.

Ambrish arrives with strong credentials from the international youth circuit. He was a key member of the Indian squad that clinched the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 title. The left-handed batter and right-arm medium pacer finished as India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament, claiming 11 wickets. His standout performance came in the final, where he picked up three crucial wickets, including the first breakthrough, as India successfully defended a massive total of 412 against England.

In addition to his World Cup heroics, Ambrish has also represented India in Under-19 tours of England and Australia, as well as the U-19 Asia Cup, further underlining his potential as a rising allrounder.

SRH have had a challenging season in terms of injuries to their fast-bowling unit. Captain Pat Cummins missed the first four matches while recovering from injury. Meanwhile, allrounder Jack Edwards was ruled out before the season began due to a foot injury. The team also faced early setbacks with injuries to English pacers Brydon Carse and David Payne.

Despite these challenges, SRH have found impressive form, winning their last five matches consecutively. They currently sit third on the points table, level on 12 points from nine games alongside two other teams.

Looking ahead, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Kolkata Knight Riders in a home fixture on Sunday, May 3, as they aim to continue their strong run in the tournament.
