Delhi Capitals Chase Down 226 as Rajasthan Royals’ Bowling Falters Again in Jaipur
Rajasthan Royals’ struggles to defend big totals at home continued as Delhi Capitals pulled off a comfortable seven-wicket victory in a high-scoring encounter. Despite a strong batting performance led by Riyan Parag and a late flourish from Donovan Ferreira, RR’s bowlers failed to capitalize on conditions, allowing DC to cruise to their highest successful chase.
Batting first after winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals posted an imposing 225 for 6. The innings didn’t begin smoothly, with early movement off the pitch reducing them to 36 for 2 in the first five overs. Parag steadied the innings brilliantly, crafting a well-paced 90 off 50 balls. Ferreira then provided the late acceleration with an unbeaten 47, showcasing remarkable hitting—particularly against tight deliveries—to push RR past the 220 mark.
However, the decision to bat first raised questions once again. While the pitch assisted seamers early, it eased out significantly during the second innings, offering little help to RR’s otherwise potent bowling attack featuring Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger.
Delhi Capitals made full use of the improved batting conditions. Pathum Nissanka set the tone with a blazing start, scoring 62 runs and dominating the powerplay. KL Rahul anchored the chase with a fluent 75, maintaining a strike rate above 200 through the middle overs. Nitish Rana then ensured there were no late hiccups, finishing with a quickfire 33 off 17 balls.
The only bright spot for DC with the ball earlier was Mitchell Starc, who marked his return with figures of 3 for 40, doing just enough to restrict RR from an even bigger total.
A much-anticipated face-off between Starc and young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi didn’t materialize as expected. While Yashasvi Jaiswal managed to hit Starc for a first-ball six, Sooryavanshi fell early to Kyle Jamieson, denying fans the thrilling contest.
RR also experimented tactically in the middle overs. Ravindra Jadeja was used as a pinch anchor to counter Kuldeep Yadav, allowing Ferreira to attack later. The strategy showed promise briefly, with Ferreira even taking on Kuldeep successfully, but it wasn’t enough to compensate for the lack of bowling impact later.
In the end, Delhi Capitals chased down the target with ease, rarely appearing under pressure. For Rajasthan Royals, it was a frustrating repeat of a familiar story—big runs on the board, but no answers with the ball.
