About
Rajat Patidar is a classic example of a player who built his reputation through strong domestic performances rather than hype. Born in Indore, he initially started cricket as a bowler before focusing seriously on batting at the U-15 level.
Patidar made his domestic debut for Madhya Pradesh cricket team during the 2015–16 season. Like many domestic cricketers, he needed a few seasons to establish himself, but his breakthrough came in the 2018–19 season when he emerged as his team’s leading run-scorer. His performances earned him a call-up to the Duleep Trophy and later an IPL contract with Royal Challengers Bengaluru ahead of the 2021 season.
His first IPL season was modest, managing 71 runs in four matches, which led to RCB releasing him. However, fate gave him another opportunity in 2022 when he returned to the squad as an injury replacement. Patidar grabbed the chance brilliantly, scoring 333 runs at an impressive strike rate. His unbeaten 112 in the Eliminator became one of the standout knocks of the tournament and marked the beginning of his rise as a high-impact T20 batter.
Known for his fearless stroke play and ability to dominate spin bowling, Patidar soon entered the national setup. However, his international career has so far been limited to one ODI and three Test matches for India national cricket team. His performances in the home Test series against England cricket team were disappointing, as he struggled against spin despite his strong domestic reputation against slow bowling.
Following those setbacks, Patidar returned to domestic cricket and was appointed captain of Madhya Pradesh for the 2025 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Leading from the front, he guided his underrated side to the final. His leadership and performances impressed RCB management, resulting in his appointment as captain of the franchise for the 2025 IPL season.
