Ryan Rickelton, a stylish left-handed wicketkeeper-batter, has emerged as one of South Africa’s most promising talents across formats. Still in his early 20s, Rickelton has been part of the Gauteng setup since 2015, steadily building a strong domestic reputation with both the bat and the gloves.

Despite being dismissed for a duck in his debut first-class innings, Rickelton showed resilience and quickly established himself as a key performer. With a first-class average of 45.75 and multiple centuries to his name—including a standout double hundred against Pakistan in 2024—he has consistently been among Gauteng’s leading run-scorers. He topped the charts in both the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge (351 runs) and Sunfoil 3-Day Cup (562 runs).

His consistent domestic performances earned him a place in the Highveld Lions and the Cricket South Africa Emerging Squad in 2018. Rickelton’s international breakthrough came later; after spending time as the understudy to Quinton de Kock, he finally made his ODI debut in March 2023 against West Indies and followed it up with a T20I debut in 2024.

Post de Kock’s retirement, Rickelton was gradually phased into the national side and began to make his mark across formats. He played a crucial role in the home Test series against Pakistan in 2024–25, scoring a sensational double century in the second match. His momentum continued into the 2025 Champions Trophy, where he began the tournament with a century against Afghanistan.

Rickelton has also featured prominently in the SA20 League for MI Cape Town, and in 2025, he was signed by the Mumbai Indians for the IPL, underlining his growing international appeal.
