Bhuvneshwar Kumar Surges to Top of Purple Cap Standings in IPL 2026
The race for the Purple and Orange Caps in IPL 2026 continues to intensify, with several standout performances reshaping the leaderboard after Thursday’s clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Purple Cap: Bhuvneshwar Takes the Lead
RCB’s seasoned pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has stormed to the top of the Purple Cap standings following his fifth three-wicket haul of the season. Delivering an impressive spell of 3 for 28, Bhuvneshwar now leads the chart with 17 wickets, including back-to-back three-fors.
He is currently two wickets ahead of Eshan Malinga from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who sits in second place with 15 wickets and still has a chance to reclaim the lead in Sunday’s fixture.
Gujarat Titans’ pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada had an opportunity to close the gap but managed just one wicket in the match. He now shares third place with 14 wickets alongside Jofra Archer of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Orange Cap: Top Order Remains Unchanged
In contrast, the Orange Cap standings saw little movement. Virat Kohli scored 28, while Shubman Gill contributed 43—solid performances, but not enough to disrupt the top ranks. Meanwhile, B Sai Sudharsan managed just 6 runs.
As a result, Wednesday night’s top three remain unchanged: Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continue to dominate the leaderboard. Notably, they are the only players to have crossed the 400-run mark this season so far.
Kohli holds onto fourth place with 379 runs, while Gill climbs to fifth, overtaking KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals.
Tight Race Ahead
With several matches still to be played, both the Purple and Orange Cap races remain wide open. While Bhuvneshwar has taken a decisive lead among bowlers, the chasing pack is close behind. On the batting front, consistency at the top continues to define the competition, but a single big innings could quickly change the standings.
