Liam Dawson to Charith Asalanka, out Pavan Rathnayake Run Out!! Another one bites the dust! This was a poor call for a run and Pavan Rathnayake faces the brunt of it. Hang on. Has Cox flicked the bails off with his gloves before the ball hit the stumps? Was a length delivery outside off - Asalanka taps it to short third and the batters take off for a suicidal run. A desperate dive from Pavan Rathnayake but he is miles out when the stump was uprooted by the powerful throw, The square leg umpire gave it out initially. But then the umpires got together and referred it upstairs. There’s some confusion. The replays roll in. Well, the zing bails lit up because Cox displaced them prior to the throw hitting the stumps. The third umpire initially reverses the decision but then he wants to have a re-look. Not sure why the confusion. Wicket is considered to have been broken if one or more bails are removed, or one or more stumps are uprooted. In this case, even though the bails were removed accidentally by the keeper before the throw came in, the stumps were still in the ground, and it's sufficient for the purpose of breaking the wicket fairly to uproot the stump, either by the ball itself, or the ball in the hand of a fielder. Finally the right decision is made. Pavan Rathnayake run out (Jofra Archer) 18(25) [4s-2]
