Rajasthan Royals’ Playoff Hopes Hang by a Thread After Third Straight Defeat

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag did not hold back in his criticism after his side slumped to a third consecutive defeat in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Following the loss to Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan now sit sixth on the points table with only two league matches remaining, leaving their playoff hopes in serious danger.

After beginning the season in dominant fashion with four straight victories, the Royals’ campaign has unraveled dramatically. They have managed only two wins in their last eight games, with inconsistent performances in both batting and fielding proving costly.

Defending a competitive total of 193 in Delhi, Rajasthan failed to hold their nerve as Delhi Capitals chased down the target in the final over. Speaking after the match, Parag expressed deep frustration over his team’s standards and attitude on the field.

“I feel if you want to win a trophy, if you want to be contending every single year, you've got to be better than what we've done today,” Parag said during the post-match presentation. “Extremely disappointed. I feel we are a way better team than what we've played or shown in the last four-five games.”

The Royals captain also questioned the team’s intensity and execution since returning from the mid-season break.

“After coming from a break, I feel what we've shown today energy-wise, skill-wise, execution-wise, is definitely not up to the mark. And if we keep on playing like this, we shouldn't be in contention for the top four,” he added.

Fielding errors once again haunted Rajasthan in a crucial encounter. Youngster Yash Raj Punja dropped KL Rahul when he was yet to score, and the Delhi batter made RR pay heavily by scoring 56 off 42 balls. Additional misfields from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Parag himself added to the Royals’ woes in a game decided by fine margins.

With pressure mounting and only two opportunities left to revive their campaign, Rajasthan Royals now face a must-win situation if they hope to stay alive in the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs.
