Overton Returns as CSK Opt to Bowl Against Unchanged RCB

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won his first toss in three matches and elected to bowl against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2026.

After suffering back-to-back defeats, CSK made a key change to their playing XI, bringing back England allrounder Jamie Overton. The move increased their overseas player count to three, having fielded only two in their previous outing against Punjab Kings.

Gaikwad also provided an update on veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, stating that he is recovering well from a calf injury. However, CSK continued to miss the services of Dewald Brevis, who is sidelined with a side strain.

Despite the reshuffle, there was still no place in the XI for West Indies allrounder Akeal Hosein. Left-arm spinning allrounder Prashant Veer retained his spot, even though he did not bowl in the previous match.

CSK also left out their high-profile ₹14.2 crore signing Kartik Sharma from the starting XI, placing him on the Impact Substitute bench alongside Australian allrounder Matt Short. One of the two is expected to bolster the batting lineup during the chase.

Meanwhile, RCB stuck with the same combination that secured victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening match of the season at this venue. Captain Rajat Patidar opted for continuity, with wristspinner Suyash Sharma likely to be introduced as an Impact Substitute when they take the field.

The RCB lineup features prominent names including Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, while CSK’s batting order includes Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Sarfaraz Khan.

With CSK aiming to bounce back from consecutive losses and RCB looking to maintain their winning momentum, the contest promises to be a crucial early-season clash in IPL 2026.
