CSK Suffer Fresh Injury Blow as Jamie Overton Returns to England
Chennai Super Kings have been dealt another major setback in an injury-plagued IPL 2026 campaign, with England allrounder Jamie Overton returning home due to a right thigh injury.
The franchise confirmed on Wednesday that Overton would travel back to the UK for further assessment and treatment, although no official timeline has been provided regarding his recovery or possible return this season. With only three league-stage matches remaining, his comeback appears unlikely.
“Jamie Overton has a right thigh injury and will be returning to the UK for further assessment and management,” CSK said in a statement on social media.
Overton’s absence comes as a significant blow to Chennai’s playoff hopes. The English allrounder has been one of CSK’s standout performers this season, claiming 14 wickets at an impressive average of 17.78. He is currently the team’s second-highest wicket-taker and recently earned Player of the Match honors for his figures of 3 for 36 in CSK’s five-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at Chepauk on May 11.
The injury list at CSK continues to grow. Earlier on Wednesday, the franchise announced the signing of Karnataka allrounder Macneil Noronha as a replacement for fast bowler Ramakrishna Ghosh, who suffered a broken foot on his IPL debut.
Before the tournament even began, CSK had already lost Australian pacer Nathan Ellis to a hamstring injury. During the season, left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed sustained a quadricep injury, while young batter Ayush Mhatre was sidelined with a hamstring problem.
Middle-order batter Dewald Brevis also missed the opening three matches because of a side strain. Veteran captain MS Dhoni and Australian quick Spencer Johnson are yet to feature in IPL 2026.
Despite the mounting injury concerns, CSK remain firmly in the playoff race. The five-time champions are currently fifth on the points table with 12 points from 11 matches and will next face Lucknow Super Giants in an away fixture on Friday.
