Jaiswal’s Blitz Powers Rajasthan Royals to Rain-Shortened Win Over Mumbai Indians
In a rain-curtailed encounter in Guwahati, the Rajasthan Royals delivered a commanding performance to defeat the Mumbai Indians by 27 runs in an 11-over-per-side contest. The match, delayed by over two and a half hours due to heavy rain, sprang to life late in the evening—and it was Rajasthan who made the most of the shortened format.
Explosive Start Sets the Tone
Opening the innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi launched a ferocious assault, piling up 80 runs in just five overs. Sooryavanshi played a fearless knock of 39 off 14 balls, highlighted by an audacious attack on Jasprit Bumrah, including a six off his very first delivery.
Jaiswal, meanwhile, was unstoppable. The left-hander smashed 77 off just 32 balls, remaining unbeaten and anchoring the Royals to a formidable 150 for 3. His innings included a flurry of boundaries and a half-century reached in just 23 deliveries.
Middle-Order Contributions and Late Push
After Sooryavanshi’s dismissal, wickets fell intermittently with Shardul Thakur and AM Ghazanfar making brief inroads. However, Jaiswal continued his onslaught, finishing strongly with a six off Bumrah and multiple boundaries in the final over.
Mumbai’s Struggles in Chase
Chasing a steep target with a required rate nearing 14 per over, Mumbai faltered early. Jofra Archer struck the first blow, dismissing Ryan Rickelton. Suryakumar Yadav showed brief resistance but fell soon after, while Rohit Sharma was trapped lbw by Sandeep Sharma.
Reduced to 29 for 3 in the shortened powerplay, Mumbai never recovered. Ravi Bishnoi further dented the chase by removing Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma in quick succession.
A late cameo from Naman Dhir and Sherfane Rutherford added 47 runs in 17 balls, but the effort proved insufficient. Rajasthan’s bowlers, including Nandre Burger and Archer, held their nerve to restrict Mumbai to 123 for 9.
Royals Continue Winning Run
With this victory, Rajasthan Royals climbed to the top of the points table, registering their third consecutive win. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, slumped to their second straight defeat, struggling to find momentum in the tournament.
The match, though shortened, delivered high-intensity cricket, with Jaiswal’s brilliance standing out as the defining performance of the night.
