Indian Premier League 2026: Bhuvneshwar Extends Purple Cap Lead as Kohli, Rahul Climb Orange Cap Standings
The race for the Orange and Purple Caps in the Indian Premier League 2026 intensified on Sunday after standout performances from several top stars during the double-header clashes featuring Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
Kohli, Rahul Close In on Orange Cap Leaders
In the afternoon fixture, Virat Kohli continued his consistent run with the bat, scoring 58 off 37 balls to guide RCB to victory over PBKS. While Australia’s Cooper Connolly chipped in with a brisk 37 off 22 deliveries, Kohli’s innings proved more significant in the Orange Cap standings.
The former RCB captain climbed to 542 runs for the season, narrowing the gap on current leaders B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans, who have 554 and 552 runs respectively. Connolly also broke into the top ten, reaching 473 runs and moving to eighth position.
Later in the evening encounter between DC and RR, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 46 off just 21 balls, while KL Rahul anchored the chase with a composed 56 from 42 deliveries.
Rahul’s knock lifted him to fourth place on the Orange Cap leaderboard with 533 runs, pushing Heinrich Klaasen of Sunrisers Hyderabad down to fifth. Sooryavanshi, meanwhile, rose to sixth place with 486 runs in an impressive breakout season.
Bhuvneshwar Tightens Grip on Purple Cap
On the bowling front, Bhuvneshwar Kumar further strengthened his hold on the Purple Cap during RCB’s win over PBKS. The veteran pacer removed both PBKS openers — Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh — finishing with figures of 2 for 38.
Although slightly expensive compared to his season economy rate of 7.70, Bhuvneshwar’s latest outing took his wicket tally to 24 for the season, extending his lead at the top of the charts.
He now sits three wickets ahead of Kagiso Rabada of GT, while Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings trails by five wickets.
In the evening match, Jofra Archer returned to form with figures of 2 for 35. After enduring a difficult stretch in recent matches, the RR speedster climbed to fourth place in the Purple Cap standings with 17 wickets, moving ahead of a group of bowlers tied on 16 scalps.
With the league stage approaching its climax, both the Orange Cap and Purple Cap races are shaping up for a thrilling finish.
