Trinbago Knight Riders Retire Dwayne Bravo’s No. 47 Jersey in Historic CPL Honour

Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) have retired the iconic No. 47 jersey worn by former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, making him the first player in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) history to receive the honour.

The franchise announced the decision during a ceremony held before the start of their CPL 2026 match against Jamaica Kingsmen in Port of Spain on Saturday night. The jersey was retired in recognition of Bravo’s outstanding contribution to TKR, the CPL and cricket in Trinidad & Tobago.

“Dwayne Bravo's contribution to the Knight Riders and to the CPL is impossible to measure,” Knight Riders group CEO Venky Mysore said during the ceremony. “Retiring No. 47 is our way of ensuring that his legacy will forever be a part of this franchise. There could be no more fitting player to become the first in CPL history to receive this honour.”

Bravo has enjoyed a remarkable career in the CPL, winning the tournament title five times as a player. His journey began in 2015, when the franchise competed as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, and continued through TKR’s championship-winning campaigns. He captained TKR to titles in 2017 and 2018, while also leading St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to the trophy in 2021.

The all-rounder played 107 CPL matches and claimed 129 wickets at an economy rate of 8.74. Although he last played in the competition in 2024, Bravo remains the tournament’s third-highest wicket-taker, behind Sunil Narine, with 139 wickets, and Imran Tahir, with 135.

Bravo is now serving as TKR’s head coach, continuing his association with the franchise from a new role.

Current TKR captain Nicholas Pooran paid tribute to Bravo in a video released by the franchise, highlighting the former all-rounder’s influence both on and off the field.

“Thank you for being an inspiration and a role model,” Pooran said. “We're really happy to have you in our corner. Thank you for being a bigger brother. Thank you for being a father figure at times for us. But most importantly, thanks for being that inspiration in my life.”

TKR teammate and fellow West Indies star Sunil Narine also praised Bravo’s influence on younger cricketers.

“I think you have paved the way for a lot of young cricketers,” Narine said, pointing to Bravo’s professionalism, energy and relentless desire to win.

Kieron Pollard, who captained TKR to the CPL title in 2020 with Bravo in the squad, also acknowledged the significant impact Bravo had on his career and the team’s culture.

“Thank you for all that you have done obviously for me personally as an individual,” Pollard said, while also praising Bravo’s role in building a winning environment within the franchise.

The retirement of No. 47 marks a significant moment in CPL history and ensures that Bravo’s legacy will remain permanently associated with the Trinbago Knight Riders.
