Fatima Sana Fined for Send-Off Gesture to Shafali Verma

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been fined 10% of her match fee and handed one demerit point for her send-off gesture towards India's Shafali Verma during the Women's T20 Asia Cup in Dubai.

The incident occurred during the second over of India's chase after Pakistan had been bowled out for just 55 runs. Shafali attempted a shot back towards the bowler and Sana completed the catch before gesturing towards the pavilion during her celebration.

The gesture attracted the attention of the match officials and resulted in Sana being charged with a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Match Officials. The provision covers actions or gestures that disparage a dismissed batter or could provoke an aggressive reaction.

Sana admitted to the offence during her meeting with match referee Supriya Rani Das, meaning a formal hearing was not required.

The penalty is particularly significant because it was Sana's second offence within a 24-month period. Her latest demerit point takes her disciplinary tally to two.

The charge was brought by on-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.

India dominate Pakistan

The disciplinary action came after a one-sided contest in which India cruised to a seven-wicket victory.

Pakistan were dismissed for only 55 after India's spin attack dismantled their batting lineup. N Shree Charani led the way with 3 for 7, while Prema Rawat claimed 3 for 9. Deepti Sharma added 2 for 5 and Shafali Verma took one wicket for 10 runs.

Sana was Pakistan's standout bowler despite the defeat, claiming all three Indian wickets to fall.

India comfortably completed the chase and secured top spot in the group, booking their place in the first semi-final on Thursday.

Pakistan face Hong Kong

Pakistan, meanwhile, have one victory from their first two matches and will play Hong Kong in their final group-stage game on Monday evening.

With India already through as group leaders, Pakistan will need a strong performance in their final fixture to strengthen their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
