About
Combermere School in Barbados has long been a cradle for West Indies cricketing talent, producing legends like Frank Worrell and Wes Hall. Among its more recent graduates is Shamar Springer, a promising all-rounder who first rose to prominence during the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup.
A Barbadian by birth, Springer made headlines with his combination of street-smart batting and effective medium-pace bowling. He amassed 285 runs and claimed 7 wickets in just six matches during the tournament, making him one of the standout performers for the victorious West Indies U19 side. His knock of 62 off 88 balls in the tense semi-final against Bangladesh showcased not just his power-hitting but also his composure under pressure.
Springer also became a fan favourite for his infectious energy and celebratory flair. His now-famous 'chest roll' dance move after West Indies clinched the U19 World Cup title became one of the defining images of the tournament.
Following his U19 success, Springer continued to develop his game and made his first-class debut in 2017, adding another chapter to Combermere's rich cricketing legacy. With his all-round abilities and flair, Shamar Springer remains a talent to watch as he looks to break into higher honours in West Indies cricket.
