About

Avesh Khan is a tall, skiddy right-arm seamer who thrives on hitting the deck hard and extracting steep bounce from a good length. Capable of consistently touching speeds above 140 kmph when in rhythm, he fits the mould of the modern fast bowler, armed with a wide range of variations. Off-cutters, leg-cutters and an array of well-disguised slower balls complement his raw pace, making him an effective option across formats.

Avesh made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2014–15 Ranji Trophy at just 17 years of age, against Railways. Prior to that, he was part of India’s Under-19 squad for the 2014 World Cup in the UAE, where opportunities were limited and he managed just one wicket. He returned far stronger in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, leading India’s pace attack and claiming 12 wickets in six matches at an impressive average of 15.08, a performance that firmly placed him on the national radar.

His rise continued steadily. In 2017, Avesh earned his first IPL contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore, a key step in his transition to senior-level cricket. The following year, he was selected as one of India’s net bowlers for the Test tour of South Africa, alongside Basil Thampi and Ankit Rajpoot — exposure that proved invaluable. Coincidentally, 2018 also marked his most productive first-class season, as he picked up 35 wickets from just seven matches for Madhya Pradesh at a remarkable average of 16.37.

While domestic consistency laid the groundwork, it was the 2021 IPL that propelled Avesh into international contention. Representing Delhi Capitals, he delivered a breakout season, finishing with 24 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37. His performances earned him selection as a net bowler for India at the 2021 T20 World Cup, followed by his international debut in both white-ball formats in 2022.

That period also saw a major milestone in his IPL career. At the 2022 mega auction, Lucknow Super Giants secured Avesh Khan for INR 10 crore, reflecting his growing reputation as a high-impact fast bowler. His value to the franchise was further underlined when he was named among LSG’s five retained players ahead of the 2025 IPL season.

With pace, bounce, and a continually evolving skill set, Avesh Khan has established himself as one of India’s most promising fast-bowling prospects, capable of influencing matches at the highest level.
