About

Full Name: Sunil Philip Narine
Born: May 26, 1988 (Trinidad)
Bowling Style: Right-arm off-spin
Batting Style: Left-hand bat
Role: Bowling all-rounder
Teams: West Indies, Kolkata Knight Riders, Trinidad & Tobago, and multiple T20 franchises worldwide

Sunil Narine is one of T20 cricket’s most enduring and economical bowlers, known for his subtle variations, mystery spin, and ability to choke run flow across all conditions. Despite a stop-start international career due to repeated issues with his bowling action, Narine has carved out a legendary status in global T20 leagues.

He began his rise in domestic cricket with a standout performance—claiming all 10 wickets in a trial match for Trinidad and Tobago—and made his first-class debut in 2009. Initially a batting talent in youth cricket, Narine transformed into a formidable spinner, catching attention with a strong Champions League T20 in 2011, which earned him a maiden call-up to the West Indies ODI squad.

Narine’s breakout moment came in the 2012 IPL, when Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for USD 700,000. He finished that season with 24 wickets, playing a pivotal role in KKR’s maiden title win. That same year, he made his Test debut and helped West Indies lift the T20 World Cup.

However, his international progress was hampered by recurring issues with his bowling action, leading to multiple suspensions. Although he returned after remodeling his action, he never regained consistency at the international level, with his last appearance for West Indies coming in 2019.

Despite this, Narine has been a consistent force in franchise cricket. In the late 2010s, he reinvented himself by opening the batting as a powerplay hitter, becoming a true all-round threat. His economy with the ball remained world-class, even as his wicket-taking ability declined slightly.

Narine was instrumental in KKR’s 2024 IPL title win, delivering one of the most remarkable all-round seasons ever — scoring over 450 runs and picking up 15+ wickets, becoming only the second player in IPL history to achieve this double.

A T20 stalwart with a legacy built on mystery, consistency, and adaptability, Sunil Narine remains one of the most valuable assets in franchise cricket across the globe.
