Young leg-spinner Suyash Sharma burst onto the Indian Premier League scene with a dream debut for Kolkata Knight Riders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the iconic Eden Gardens. The youngster announced himself in style by claiming three wickets and playing a key role in KKR’s commanding 81-run victory.

Sharing the bowling attack with experienced mystery spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, Suyash impressed with his calm approach and ability to trouble established batters. His performances added a fresh dimension to KKR’s spin department during the 2023 season.

The leg-spinner enjoyed a productive debut campaign, finishing with 10 wickets in the tournament. More importantly, he earned praise for the composure he displayed while bowling against some of the biggest names in world cricket, proving he had the temperament to succeed at the highest level.

However, the following season did not go as planned for the young spinner. Opportunities were limited, and Suyash featured in only a couple of matches for KKR without making a major impact. Despite the quieter season, franchises continued to value his potential and ability to develop into a match-winning spinner.

Ahead of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured Suyash Sharma’s services for INR 2.60 crore, showing strong faith in the youngster’s talent. Bengaluru will now hope the leg-spinner can flourish in their setup and strengthen their bowling attack.

Bowling at the batter-friendly M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is expected to be a significant challenge, especially for a young spinner. However, if Suyash can maintain the composure and confidence he displayed during his breakthrough season, he could emerge as a valuable asset for RCB in IPL 2025.
