About
From a debut to remember to becoming a key figure in Scotland’s bowling unit, Safyaan Sharif has steadily built a reputation as one of the most dependable seamers in Scottish cricket.
Born in England, Sharif made his mark in Scottish colours during the Intercontinental Cup One-Day competition, debuting in ODIs against the Netherlands. He announced himself in style, delivering a match-winning spell of 4 for 27 in his very first outing.
His red-ball journey began shortly after, with a First-Class debut in September 2011 against Namibia, followed by another appearance against the UAE in the 2012 Intercontinental Cup, where he continued to develop his skillset in the longer format.
Sharif's breakthrough moment came during the 2014 ICC World Cup Qualifiers, where he was a standout performer for Scotland. His tally of 14 wickets in the tournament was instrumental in securing Scotland’s qualification for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. As a result, he earned a well-deserved place in the 15-member squad that represented the nation on the global stage in Australia and New Zealand.
