About
With his tall, strongly built frame, Romario Shepherd cuts an imposing figure on the field. An all-rounder known for his ability to strike with the ball and contribute useful runs in the lower order, Shepherd has steadily emerged as a key player in Guyana’s cricketing setup.
His journey began in age-group cricket, representing Guyana at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels in 2012, before turning out for Berbice Under-19 in 2013. His early promise with both bat and ball did not go unnoticed.
Romario’s breakthrough came during the 2016 Nagico Super50 tournament, where he made an impressive debut for Guyana. Bowling with pace and intent, he claimed 3 for 37 against the Leeward Islands and was named Man of the Match — a performance that signaled the arrival of a potential all-format player.
Guyana quickly recognized his talent and handed him a first-class debut the following year. His consistent domestic performances soon earned him a call-up to the West Indies A squad for their series against the touring England Lions in 2018.
Whether with the ball or bat, Romario Shepherd continues to develop as a valuable all-round asset for West Indies cricket, with his raw pace and lower-order hitting making him a player to watch in the years ahead.
