About
Richie Berrington, a South Africa-born cricketer, has long been a key figure in Scotland’s cricketing journey. A product of the country’s development system, Berrington represented Scotland in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup, having already shown immense promise during his time with the national Under-15 side. At just 18, he was selected for a stint in India as part of the ICC’s European Cricket Academy, a move that shaped his development as a cricketer.
Berrington made his ODI debut in 2008 against Ireland following an impressive run with Scotland 'A'. Steady performances and his ability to contribute in pressure situations earned him a full-time national contract by March 2010, marking his rise as a dependable figure in the Scottish setup.
While undeniably talented, Berrington’s career has been marked by inconsistency, which has often held him back from fully realizing his potential on the global stage. Still, he has produced several important performances, particularly during key tournaments.
One such moment came during the 2014 World Cup Qualifiers, where he not only made valuable contributions throughout the tournament but also scored his maiden ODI century — a milestone that reaffirmed his place in the squad. His efforts made selection for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup a straightforward decision.
Though his career has had its ups and downs, Berrington remains an integral part of Scotland’s middle order, offering both experience and grit in high-pressure matches. With years of international cricket under his belt, he continues to serve as a steadying presence in Scotland's evolving cricket narrative.
