About

Born in Wellington to Indian parents, Rachin Ravindra is a dynamic left-handed batter and left-arm orthodox spinner who has quickly established himself as one of New Zealand’s brightest cricketing talents. With roots that trace back to Indian legends—his name is a tribute to Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar—Ravindra has grown into a modern-day cricketer whose skillset is tailor-made for all three formats.

A standout performer in New Zealand’s domestic circuit, Ravindra impressed early with his consistency for Wellington and in age-group cricket for New Zealand U-19 and New Zealand A. His ability to open the batting and contribute with the ball earned him a T20I debut against Bangladesh in September 2021, followed by a Test debut against India in November 2021.

Breakthrough Year – 2023 Cricket World Cup

Rachin Ravindra’s international career skyrocketed during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Initially a backup option, he was drafted into the squad after an injury to Michael Bracewell—and the rest, as they say, is history. Ravindra stunned the cricketing world with a sensational century in the tournament opener against England and went on to score 578 runs, becoming one of the breakout stars of the competition. His performances earned him the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award.

Consistent Across Formats

Following the World Cup, Ravindra transitioned into a mainstay in New Zealand’s top order, known for his elegant stroke play and maturity beyond his years. He scored a memorable Test century against South Africa at home in 2024, and later that year, produced a stunning match-winning ton against India in Bangalore, sealing a rare Test series win for New Zealand in the subcontinent.

Champions Trophy 2025 Heroics

In the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Ravindra overcame a head injury scare before the tournament and returned to the playing XI in style. Batting at No. 4, he smashed a match-winning century against Bangladesh and followed it up with another ton in the semi-final against South Africa. His all-round brilliance saw him crowned the Player of the Tournament, as New Zealand finished runners-up.

IPL Journey

Ravindra’s rise in international cricket also boosted his T20 stock. Initially picked by Punjab Kings, he was retained for IPL 2025 by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) via the Right to Match (RTM) card, marking his return to the "Anbuden" camp, where fans embraced his versatile skillset and calm demeanor.

With age on his side and a well-rounded game, Rachin Ravindra is poised to become a generational cricketer for New Zealand, capable of making match-winning contributions in any format, anywhere in the world.
