About

Nicola Carey, a bowling all-rounder, hails from Sydney. A medium-pace bowler, who is also more-than-reliable with the bat, Carey made her domestic debut for her home team - Lendlease Breakers (New South Wales) - in the 2010-11 season.

Sarah Coyte, fellow NSW team-mate, fell ill and a 19-year-old Carey was named as her last-minute replacement for the 2012 World Twenty20 (WT20) World Cup. Australia went onto win the competition, but Carey didn’t feature in any of the matches. In a deja vu moment, four years later, Carey was once again called as a replacement player in the 2016 WT20 as Grace Harris was suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT). As was the case in 2012, she couldn’t make it to the playing XI.

After six years of frustrating near-misses, Carey finally made her international debut in an ODI game against India in March 2018. In the same tour, she also made her T20I debut. She was awarded a national contract for the 2018-19 season and was named in the national side for the 2018 WT20, which was eventually won by the Australians.

For the second consecutive year, the all-rounder was awarded the 2019-20 central contract. A game-changer with both bat and ball, Carey has showcased her skills in the Women's Big Bash. However, Carey’s target will be to cement her spot in the national side.
