Pakistan has a rich history of producing fast bowlers, often unveiling prodigies unexpectedly. Naseem Shah is the latest sensation, earning his maiden Test call-up for the 2019 tour of Australia after just five First-Class matches. At only 16, Naseem has already created a buzz across Pakistan with his raw pace, disciplined bowling, and skill in swinging and seaming the ball.
While still inexperienced at both First-Class and Test levels, Pakistan have taken a bold gamble by selecting him for a challenging Australian tour—a true baptism by fire for any young pacer. Naseem possesses all the natural attributes to excel across formats, but much will depend on the guidance and development he receives.
His rise was fast-tracked thanks to the faith of Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s head coach and chief selector, who recognized Naseem’s potential early on. Naseem first came to attention representing Pakistan’s U16 and U19 teams before making the leap to the senior side.
