About
Born into one of New Zealand’s most well-known cricketing families, Michael Bracewell was almost destined to take up the sport. A left-handed batter and occasional wicketkeeper, Bracewell has forged his own path in New Zealand domestic cricket with his aggressive strokeplay and game-changing abilities.
Bracewell hails from Masterton and represents Wellington in domestic competitions. While he initially made his mark as a wicketkeeper, he often plays as a specialist batter due to the presence of other glovemen like Tom Blundell and Devon Conway in the side. Known for his attacking style, Bracewell has often drawn comparisons to Adam Gilchrist, a player he openly models his game on.
Cricket runs deep in the Bracewell bloodline. His father Mark was a well-known domestic player, while uncles Brendon and John Bracewell, along with cousin Doug, have all represented New Zealand at the international level. Michael, alongside cousin Doug, also featured in New Zealand’s U19 World Cup squad in 2010.
Apart from cricket, Michael is a natural athlete with experience in rugby and basketball, a testament to his all-round sporting background.
Though he was a late bloomer in terms of international recognition, Bracewell's consistent performances and destructive batting in domestic cricket ensured he remained on the selectors’ radar. With age still on his side, Michael Bracewell remains a potent force in New Zealand cricket and a strong contender for national honours.
