About

Lizaad Williams is a South African fast bowler known for his raw pace and natural talent. Born and raised in Vredenburg, Williams first rose to prominence during the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup, impressing with his ability to consistently bowl at speeds exceeding 140 kph.

He began his professional career in the domestic circuit with Boland in the 2012/13 season, finishing with an impressive haul of 24 wickets at an average of just 17. Despite his promising start, Williams struggled with inconsistency—a common theme in his early years—which delayed his breakthrough at the international level in a country abundant with fast-bowling talent.

His long-awaited international debut came in early 2021, when he was selected for both the ODI and T20I squads for a home series against Pakistan. Although he didn’t feature in the ODIs, he made his T20I debut amid the absence of several senior players engaged in the Indian Premier League. He later made his ODI debut against Ireland the same year, striking immediately by taking a wicket with his very first delivery.

Williams made his Test debut in 2022 in a series against Bangladesh. He was named a reserve for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup but missed selection for the 2022 edition. In 2023, he earned a spot in South Africa’s 15-man squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup as a replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje.
