About

Jacob Bethell was born and raised in Bridgetown, where cricket was deeply rooted in his upbringing. His father, Graham Bethell, represented Barbados across various age-group levels, making cricket a natural path for the young all-rounder. Bethell first gained major recognition in 2017 when he was named Player of the Tournament in the West Indies Under-15 competition, a performance that soon earned him a scholarship opportunity in the United Kingdom.

After moving to England, Bethell began his professional journey with Warwickshire County Cricket Club. While he showed promise across formats, it was in white-ball cricket that his aggressive batting style and versatility truly stood out. He joined Welsh Fire for the 2022 season of The Hundred before switching to Birmingham Phoenix the following year. Strong performances in both the Vitality Blast and The Hundred quickly pushed him into England’s white-ball setup.

Bethell made an immediate impression in international cricket. In just his second T20I appearance for the England cricket team, he played a vital knock of 44 runs to help England secure a win over Australia cricket team. He continued his rise with several impactful performances against the West Indies cricket team, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.

His performances in the Caribbean series caught the attention of England Test captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, who included him in the Test squad for the 2024 tour of New Zealand. Injuries to wicketkeepers Jamie Smith and Jordan Cox forced England to reshuffle the batting order, with Ollie Pope taking over wicketkeeping duties. The situation opened the door for Bethell to make his Test debut at number three in the first Test of the series.

Before making his Test debut, Bethell also received a major boost in his franchise career after being signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru during the 2025 IPL auction, highlighting his growing reputation as one of England’s most exciting young talents.
