About

Born in Swansea, Imad Wasim initially dreamed of being a fast bowler like Wasim Akram but eventually became a slow left-arm spinner. His batting skills are also notable. Having represented Pakistan at nearly every junior level, Imad worked his way through Pakistan’s domestic system to reach the international stage. He captained the Pakistan Under-19 team to victory in the 2006 World Cup and then led them to the semi-finals in the next edition.

Imad’s list of achievements is long. He was a long-term captain for Pakistan’s age-group teams and also led Islamabad for a significant period. His T20I debut came during a historic series—the return of international cricket to Pakistan after six years—where he played in the second game, helping Pakistan secure a 2-0 series win.

His experience in league cricket across England and Ireland further honed his skills. After Pakistan lost Hafeez and Ajmal due to suspect bowling actions, Imad got his chance to represent Pakistan, debuting in ODIs in 2015 and playing in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

Known for his ability to bowl an in-slider to right-handers with the new ball, Imad offers Pakistan a useful option to open the bowling and then return to control the middle overs with tight, nagging lines. While he doesn’t turn the ball much, he relies on accuracy and pace variations to succeed.

In 2016, Imad became the first Pakistani to take a five-wicket haul in a T20I, achieving this feat against the West Indies in Dubai. During Pakistan’s unforgettable 2017 Champions Trophy win, he played a key role with both bat and ball. That year, he also impressed in the CPL for the Jamaica Tallawahs and was named PCB’s T20 Player of the Year.

Imad remained a key part of Pakistan’s white-ball team and even captained them occasionally. He was one of Pakistan’s standout performers in the 2019 Cricket World Cup and featured in the squad for the 2021 T20 World Cup.

A modern T20 mercenary, Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket in 2023. Throughout his career, he played for over 25 professional teams worldwide, including franchises in the PSL, BPL, The Hundred, BBL, MLC, and LPL.
