About
Devon Conway is an attacking left-handed batsman and a capable wicket-keeper, known for his consistency and adaptability across formats. Originally from South Africa, Conway had already made a mark in domestic cricket there—with nearly 100 First-class and 70 List A games—before relocating to New Zealand in 2017 to pursue international opportunities.
Upon his arrival, he joined the University Club and soon began featuring for the Wellington Firebirds in the Super Smash. Initially a backup option, Conway's opportunities increased when first-choice keeper Tom Blundell was called up to the national team. Conway seized the chance, delivering strong performances across all three domestic formats, which paved the way for higher honours.
Conway became eligible to represent New Zealand in August 2020 and made his international debut shortly after in T20Is. His Test debut at Lord’s was historic—he scored a double century (200), marking one of the finest debuts in Test cricket history. Since then, he has cemented his place as a mainstay in New Zealand's batting lineup across all formats.
His composed, technically sound approach, combined with the ability to accelerate when needed, has made him one of New Zealand’s most dependable batters. His performances on the international stage also caught the attention of global franchises, and he was signed by Chennai Super Kings in the 2022 IPL mega auction for INR 1 crore. He has since become a valuable asset in league cricket worldwide.
Conway's strength lies in his composure, consistency, and the ability to adapt to different roles and conditions, making him one of the most well-rounded batters in world cricket today. His averages across all formats are a testament to the dedication and hard work he invested during his formative years.
