About
A dynamic middle-order batter and a skilful off-break bowler, Ashleigh Gardner has quickly established herself as one of Australia’s most impactful all-rounders. Known for her aggressive stroke play and ability to turn games with both bat and ball, Gardner’s career has been marked by rapid ascension and consistent excellence.
Her breakthrough came in 2015, when she dominated the Cricket Australia Under-18 Championships, finishing as the top run-scorer and being named Player of the Series, while also leading New South Wales to the title. That same year, she made history by becoming the first Indigenous woman to win the Lord’s Taverners Indigenous Player of the Year award—an important milestone for both her career and Indigenous representation in Australian cricket.
Gardner carried her form into the 2016–17 domestic season, impressing for the NSW Breakers with both bat and ball—scoring 98 runs and taking 9 wickets in just five matches. Her performances earned her a national call-up in early 2017, where she debuted in both T20Is and ODIs against New Zealand.
Her rise continued as she played a vital role in Australia’s 2017 World Cup campaign, followed by contributing to the Ashes win later that year. In the WBBL, Gardner emerged as a star for the Sydney Sixers, topping the run charts in the second edition with 414 runs, showcasing her ability to dominate in high-pressure leagues.
With youth on her side and all-round talent to match, Ashleigh Gardner has grown into one of Australia’s most dependable match-winners—and remains a central figure in their pursuit of continued World T20 glory.
