About

Often introduced early in her career as the daughter of former Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland or sister of cricketer Will Sutherland, Annabel Sutherland has long since stepped out of those shadows to carve her own name in Australian cricket — and she’s done so in emphatic fashion.

A product of a cricketing family and a supportive household, Sutherland was fast-tracked into elite cricket after strong domestic performances for Victoria. Her maturity, composure, and all-round skillset caught the eye early, and she made her international debut at just 18, during the 2020 T20 Tri-Series against India and England.

In her very first match, Sutherland displayed nerves of steel. Chasing 157, with Australia needing 40 runs from the last three overs, she hammered a fearless 11-ball 22, including four boundaries, to drag the game to a super over — a glimpse of the game-changing player she was destined to become.

A True Three-Format Star

In just a few years, Annabel Sutherland transformed into a fixture across all formats for Australia. Equally potent with both bat and ball, she quickly earned comparisons to the legendary Ellyse Perry, but her trajectory has been distinctly her own.

Her stature rose further in February 2024, when she became only the 10th woman in history to score a Test double century, with a stunning 210 vs South Africa — the second-highest individual score ever by an Australian woman in Test cricket. She backed it up the following year with a commanding 163 in an Ashes Test against England, a match-winning effort that earned her the Player of the Match accolade.

Championship Pedigree

Sutherland has been part of Australia’s golden era, contributing to:

  • 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup triumph in New Zealand

  • 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup win in South Africa

  • Multiple Women’s Ashes campaigns

In franchise cricket, her versatility and impact have made her one of the most sought-after all-rounders globally, continuing to elevate her reputation as a match-winner under pressure.

More Than Just a Legacy

From being tagged early on as a cricketer with a famous surname, Annabel Sutherland has authored a story of merit, resilience, and consistent brilliance. Whether it's with bat in hand, ball in motion, or under lights in a final, she’s fast becoming one of the central figures in world cricket’s next generation.

And if the past few years are any indication — this is still just the beginning.
