About

Talent often flourishes only when paired with composure, and Alzarri Joseph is a prime example of that balance. Possessing a calm head without sacrificing a fast bowler’s natural aggression, Joseph has shown maturity well beyond his years. He rose to prominence early, captaining West Indies to victory in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he also emerged as the tournament’s fastest bowler. Tall, quick, and equipped with a smooth, effortless action, Joseph quickly became one of the most exciting young prospects in Caribbean cricket.

The calls for his elevation to the senior side were answered in 2016 when he was included in the Test squad against India. At just 19, Joseph announced himself on the international stage by dismissing Virat Kohli with a fiery delivery in only his third over. Later that year, he made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Sharjah, further cementing his rapid rise.

Joseph’s progress was briefly halted in December 2017 when he suffered a stress fracture in his back during the tour of New Zealand, ruling him out of international cricket for nearly seven months. Following his recovery, he returned for the home series against Bangladesh and featured for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League. Although initially named in the squad for the tour of India, he was later withdrawn on the recommendation of Cricket West Indies’ medical panel to allow him to complete his rehabilitation.

Hailing from Antigua, Joseph began his cricketing journey with the same club his father once represented before excelling in age-group cricket for the island. He idolizes Dale Steyn and honed his skills under the guidance of former West Indies pacer Winston Benjamin. In recognition of his promise and performances, Cricket West Indies awarded him a central contract across all formats for the 2018–19 season.
