About
Alana King has been a pivotal figure in Australia's white-ball dominance in recent years. Of Anglo-Indian descent, with roots in Chennai, she grew up in Melbourne and developed an early passion for sports, excelling in tennis, softball, baseball, and cricket.
Her professional journey began with a rookie contract for Victoria in the Women’s National Cricket League at just 16. She was then drafted by Melbourne Stars for the inaugural WBBL season. However, her major breakthrough came during the 2021-22 season after switching to Perth Scorchers, where she ended as the fifth-highest wicket-taker.
King made her ODI and T20I debuts soon after and quickly cemented her spot as Australia's frontline spinner. She was instrumental in Australia's gold medal win at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, and also part of the squads that lifted the 2022 Women’s World Cup and the 2023 T20 World Cup. Her standout moment came during the 2024–25 Women’s Ashes, where she was named Player of the Series for her leg-spin mastery.
In franchise cricket, King made headlines by becoming the first woman to take a hat-trick in The Hundred while playing for Trent Rockets. She joined the UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League in 2024.
