About

Sediqullah Atal has swiftly emerged as one of Afghanistan’s most promising young batters. An elegant left-handed top-order player from Kabul, Atal first made his mark in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, opening the batting alongside fellow talent Ibrahim Zadran. Since then, he has steadily risen through the ranks to become a player of interest across all three formats.

Atal made his T20I debut in March 2023, but it was later that year, during the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, that he truly caught the spotlight. He smashed five consecutive half-centuries in as many innings, finishing as the tournament’s top performer and earning the Player of the Tournament award. His efforts played a crucial role in helping Afghanistan A lift the title, solidifying his reputation as a player to watch.

Following his breakthrough, Atal made both his ODI and Test debuts in 2023. He quickly made an impression in the 50-over format, scoring his maiden ODI century against Zimbabwe in just his second series, and backing it up with a composed half-century.

At the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Atal further underlined his class with a fluent 85 off 95 balls against Australia, top-scoring for Afghanistan in a high-pressure match while batting at No. 3. With his solid technique and calm temperament, Atal is being groomed to be a mainstay in Afghanistan’s line-up across formats.

His growing profile also caught the attention of the IPL scouts. In 2025, Atal was signed by Delhi Capitals at his base price of INR 1.25 crore as a replacement for England's Harry Brook. He featured in the franchise’s final game of the season, contributing a quickfire 22 off 16 balls.

Back home, Atal made headlines in the 2025 edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-getter. He scored 308 runs in eight innings at an average of 38.50, further cementing his credentials as a dependable and stylish run-scorer.

With a calm head, elegant stroke play, and a hunger for runs, Sediqullah Atal is well on his way to becoming one of the pillars of Afghanistan’s cricketing future.
