About

Matthew Cross, a talented wicketkeeper-batsman, has steadily risen through the ranks of Scottish cricket and is widely regarded as one of the nation's most promising players. A former vice-captain of Scotland’s Under-19 side, Cross led the team during the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup, showcasing his leadership potential at an early age.

Off the field, Cross is pursuing an engineering degree at Loughborough University, a testament to his ability to balance academics with high-level sport. His performances for Loughborough MCCU and the Scotland U19 team drew widespread praise, marking him as a player to watch. He has also turned out for Nottinghamshire’s second XI, gaining valuable experience in the English county circuit.

In 2013, Cross made his debut for the Scottish Saltires in the YB40 competition against Hampshire, further strengthening his credentials. That same year, he earned his first T20I cap for Scotland in a match against Kenya. His consistent displays saw him included in the squad for the 2013 T20 World Cup Qualifiers in the UAE.

Cross transitioned to ODI cricket in 2014, making his debut during the World Cup Qualifiers. Opening the batting, he impressed with two half-centuries, helping provide solid starts at the top of the order. However, a dip in form during the summer saw him moved down the batting order during Scotland’s World Cup acclimatisation tour.

Despite the setback, Cross remains a vital member of the national squad. With youth on his side and significant international experience already under his belt, Matthew Cross is expected to play an integral role in the future of Scottish cricket.
