About
Promising fast bowler Gavin Main has long been seen as one of Scotland’s most exciting pace prospects, but a string of injuries has prevented him from fulfilling his true potential on the international stage.
A product of Uddingston Cricket Club, the same as his Scotland teammate Calum MacLeod, Main’s raw talent caught the eye of Durham, who handed the teenager a surprise debut in 2014 against Nottinghamshire. The right-arm quick made an immediate impact, returning impressive figures of 3 for 37, which included the prized wickets of Rikki Wessels and Stuart Broad.
Main is known for his sharp pace and deadly yorker, making him a natural fit for limited-overs cricket. However, his career has been hampered by recurring injuries, restricting his appearances at both domestic and international levels. Since his debut, he featured in only two more First-Class matches for Durham — against Northamptonshire and Kent.
Internationally, Main was part of Scotland’s squad for the 2016 World T20 qualifiers and also made his List A debut during the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship. Despite a stop-start international career, he remains a highly rated prospect and a potential match-winner when fully fit.
With his natural pace and ability to bowl at the death, Gavin Main continues to be a player that Scotland will hope can stay fit and deliver on his early promise in the years to come.
