About

Gudakesh Motie, a talented left-arm orthodox spinner from Guyana, has emerged as one of the most promising spin bowlers in the West Indies cricket setup. His cricketing journey began with his selection for the West Indies Under-19 squad in the 2014 World Cup, where he showcased early glimpses of his potential.

Motie honed his skills across formats, playing first-class cricket for the Windward Islands in the 4-Day competition and representing Guyana in limited-overs formats. His breakthrough came during the 2019–20 Regional Super50 tournament, where he finished as the leading wicket-taker, underlining his prowess in white-ball cricket.

His consistent performances earned him a call-up to the West Indies senior team. Motie made his debut in both ODIs and Tests during the home series against Bangladesh, marking the beginning of his international journey.

One of his career-defining performances came in 2023 during the Test series against Zimbabwe. In the second Test, he delivered a match-winning spell, claiming 13 wickets, and was deservedly named Player of the Series. His ability to exploit spin-friendly conditions and consistently trouble batters has made him a valuable asset in red-ball cricket.

Motie was also part of the West Indies squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, further underlining his versatility as a multi-format player. He continued to be involved in the Test setup, featuring in the away series against England.

In franchise cricket, Motie has been a key member of the Guyana Amazon Warriors since 2021 in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), contributing with his economical spells and wicket-taking ability.

With a solid foundation laid across formats and notable performances under his belt, Gudakesh Motie is steadily cementing his place as a crucial component of West Indies' future in international cricket.
