About

Full Name: Evin Earl Lewis
Born: December 27, 1991 – Trinidad
Batting Style: Left-handed
Role: Opening batsman
Teams: West Indies, Trinidad & Tobago, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Mumbai Indians, Dhaka Dynamites, other T20 franchises

A dynamic and explosive left-handed opener, Evin Lewis has carved a reputation as one of the most dangerous T20 batsmen of his era. Known for his clean striking and six-hitting ability, Lewis is one of the few players with multiple T20I centuries, both coming against India — including a memorable 125 at Sabina Park*.

Lewis made his international debut during the 2016 T20 World Cup against Afghanistan, called in as a replacement for Lendl Simmons. His ODI debut followed soon after, against Pakistan. In just his second T20I, Lewis smashed a stunning 100 off 48 balls vs India, instantly marking himself as a top-tier short-format opener.

Domestic and Franchise Career

A product of Trinidad's cricketing system, Lewis first gained international attention during the 2013 Champions League T20, scoring 211 runs in five innings. Domestically, he has played for T&T Red Steel and St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League. Globally, he’s been a regular in the Bangladesh Premier League, notably with the Barisal Bulls and Dhaka Dynamites.

IPL Career

With a reputation for power-hitting and T20 consistency, Lewis was snapped up by the Mumbai Indians for INR 3.8 crore in the IPL 2018 auction. After a slow start, he made an impact with several aggressive innings, including a half-century against RCB at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite suffering a mid-tournament wrist injury, Lewis finished as MI’s third-highest run-getter that season, though the team missed out on playoff qualification.

Strengths:

  • Explosive powerplay batting

  • Exceptional six-hitter

  • Experienced across global T20 leagues

Notable Achievements:

  • Two T20I centuries against India

  • 2013 CLT20 – fifth-highest run-scorer

  • IPL 2018 – impactful debut season with MI

Fun Fact: Lewis has often been compared to Chris Gayle, and has even opened the batting with his idol for West Indies.
