About

Krunal Pandya has established himself as one of the Indian Premier League’s most dependable all-rounders, known for his explosive left-handed batting and disciplined left-arm spin. Hailing from Vadodara, Krunal began his cricketing journey at Kiran More’s academy, where he developed alongside his younger brother Hardik Pandya. The duo quickly became popular in local cricket circles for their aggressive style of play, drawing comparisons with the famous Pathan brothers.

Krunal’s reputation as a powerful hitter grew rapidly in domestic cricket, despite not having made his first-class debut at the time. His talent caught the attention of scouts from Mumbai Indians, who aggressively pursued him during the 2016 IPL auction and secured his services for INR 2 crore.

The all-rounder justified the franchise’s faith almost immediately. In his debut IPL season, Krunal announced himself with a breathtaking knock of 86 runs from just 37 balls against Delhi Daredevils. The innings not only showcased his fearless batting but also cemented his place in Mumbai’s setup. He ended the 2016 season with 237 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 191.12 while also contributing useful overs with the ball.

Krunal elevated his game further in the 2017 season, emerging as one of Mumbai Indians’ most reliable utility players. His bowling became increasingly tactful and economical, while his lower-order batting often rescued the side from difficult situations. One of the defining moments of his career came in the IPL final against Rising Pune Supergiant, where he scored a crucial 47 runs to help Mumbai recover from 79/7 and post a winning total of 129. His match-winning performance earned him the Player of the Match award in the final.

That IPL success followed an impressive domestic campaign with Baroda cricket team, where Krunal finished as the team’s leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His performances earned him selection for India A’s tri-series involving South Africa A cricket team and Afghanistan A cricket team.

Krunal’s growing reputation was reflected during the 2018 IPL auction, where his value soared to INR 8.8 crore before Mumbai Indians used their Right To Match card to retain him. His consistency with both bat and ball made him a valuable asset for the franchise, with his economy rate remaining impressive while maintaining an aggressive strike rate as a batter.

The all-rounder eventually earned recognition at the international level as well, making his T20I debut for the India national cricket team against the West Indies cricket team in October 2018. Krunal made an immediate impact with his smart game awareness and adaptability. During India’s tour of Australia, he bounced back strongly after an expensive outing to produce a four-wicket haul in a match-winning performance, underlining his ability to handle pressure situations.

Over the years, Krunal Pandya has evolved into a proven IPL performer whose versatility with bat and ball continues to make him one of the most effective all-rounders in franchise cricket.
