About

Since Michael Hussey’s retirement, Australia have searched for a dependable middle-order batter capable of both anchoring and accelerating an innings. Travis Head has steadily emerged as that solution, especially in limited-overs cricket. A naturally aggressive left-hander, Head announced himself on the big stage during the 2015–16 Big Bash League when his stunning century powered Adelaide Strikers to an improbable win against Sydney Sixers, earning him a T20I debut against India soon after.

Although he missed selection for the 2016 World T20, Head remained firmly in the selectors’ plans. In ODIs, he played multiple roles—primarily as a middle-order batter and briefly as an opener in 2017, where he struck a century alongside David Warner. However, inconsistent form led to him missing out on the 2019 World Cup squad.

The ball-tampering scandal in 2018 opened the door for Head in Test cricket. After a modest start in the UAE, he impressed against India and cemented his place during the home series against Sri Lanka with scores of 84, 161, and 59*. His breakthrough came during the 2021–22 Ashes, where he was named Player of the Series after scoring 357 runs, including two centuries. He also played a key role in Australia’s 2023 World Test Championship triumph with a match-winning 163 against India at The Oval.

Following Aaron Finch’s retirement, Head seized his opportunity as an opener in ODIs. Despite missing the early stages of the 2023 World Cup due to injury, he returned to play a decisive role in Australia’s sixth World Cup title.

A prolific domestic performer since his first-class debut in 2011, Head is known for his ability to pace an innings, powerful stroke play, handy off-spin, and exceptional fielding—making him a complete white-ball package.

In the IPL, after an underwhelming stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore (2016–17), Head revived his franchise career with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024. Forming a destructive opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma, he played several explosive innings, including a rapid century against RCB as SRH posted a record 287. His impact earned him retention ahead of the 2025 IPL auctions.
