About

Cameron Green is one of Australia’s most exciting young prodigies, rising rapidly through grade cricket before announcing himself on the domestic stage with a five-wicket haul on Sheffield Shield debut at just 17. That performance made him the youngest bowler in Shield history to take a five-for. Standing 6’6” tall, Green generates steep bounce and bowls a heavy ball, while his rare ability to contribute equally with the bat marks him out as a genuine all-rounder. His athletic fielding—particularly in the slips and gully—adds another dimension to his value.

Despite his talent, Green’s early career was interrupted by injuries. He suffered several setbacks in junior cricket and even dislocated his knee during warm-ups in only his second Shield match. However, after quick medical attention, he was able to continue playing and soon showcased his resilience.

Green’s batting promise was evident early. In just his second first-class match, he struck a quick 45, launching three towering sixes off international bowler James Pattinson, and later backed it up with match-winning bowling figures of 3/20, including key wickets, earning praise from captain Adam Voges.

He made his List A debut for a Cricket Australia XI against Pakistan, claiming three wickets including that of Shoaib Malik, and impressing with his pace and accuracy. These performances earned him a rookie contract with the Perth Scorchers ahead of the 2017–18 Big Bash season.

Consistent domestic success led to his international breakthrough in late 2020, when he toured India and made his ODI and Test debuts in December. His T20I debut followed in 2021, and he was later named in Australia’s squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Green claimed his maiden Test five-wicket haul in the 2022 Boxing Day Test against South Africa.

Ahead of the 2023 IPL, Green was signed by Mumbai Indians for INR 17.5 crore, making him the second-most expensive overseas player in IPL history at the time. He justified the price tag with his maiden IPL century—an unbeaten 100 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Later that year, he scored his first Test century with a composed 114 against India in Ahmedabad and was part of Australia’s victorious World Test Championship campaign.

Green was subsequently named in Australia’s squad for the 2023 Cricket World Cup, further underlining his status as a cornerstone of the team’s future.
