A tall and fiery right-arm fast bowler, Taskin Ahmed made headlines early in his career with his raw pace and aggression. Born in Dhaka, he burst onto the scene as a teenager, making his First-Class debut for Dhaka Metropolis at just 16. He was soon selected for the 2012 ICC U19 World Cup in Australia, where he finished as Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker.

Taskin’s pace quickly set him apart — clocking up to 148 kph, making him the second-fastest Bangladeshi bowler behind Rubel Hossain. In only his second Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match in 2013 for Chittagong Kings, he grabbed 4/31 and earned the Man of the Match award, further raising expectations.

After a knee surgery sidelined him for nearly a year, Taskin made a strong comeback, debuting internationally in the 2014 World T20 against Australia. Just months later, he made a dream ODI debut against India, picking up 5/28 — a performance that etched his name among the brightest young fast bowlers in world cricket.

His rise continued in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he finished as Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker, playing a vital role in their historic quarterfinal qualification. His wickets of James Taylor and Jos Buttler in a must-win game against England were match-defining, and his passionate chest-bump celebration with skipper Mashrafe Mortaza became iconic.

Taskin soon became a core part of Bangladesh’s ODI attack, contributing to series wins against Pakistan and India. However, a rib injury ruled him out of the home series against South Africa. He returned for the 2016 Asia Cup, where his consistent bowling helped Bangladesh reach the final.

That same year, controversy struck during the ICC World T20 in India, as both Taskin and Arafat Sunny were suspended for illegal bowling actions. Sent home mid-tournament, Taskin underwent remedial work at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, where his action was cleared. He made a successful return during the home series against Afghanistan and England.

In January 2017, Taskin made his Test debut against New Zealand, claiming Kane Williamson as his first Test wicket. Known for his ability to generate serious pace and bounce, Taskin has remained a potent threat across formats.
