About
hile many West Indies talents gravitate towards T20 leagues worldwide, Roston Chase stands out as a traditional Test cricketer. An off-spinner who bats lower down the order, Chase has demonstrated the rare ability to bat for draws—a skill increasingly scarce in Caribbean cricket.
Chase earned his Test debut against India in 2016. In just his second Test, he produced a remarkable all-round performance, taking 5/121 and then scoring a resilient 137 on the final day to save the Jamaica Test. This feat made him only the fourth West Indian, alongside legends Denis Atkinson, Collie Smith, and Sir Garfield Sobers, to take a five-wicket haul and score a century in the same Test.
In 2017, his twin centuries almost secured a home series win against Pakistan, narrowly losing in a thrilling finish. A late bloomer from Barbados, Chase’s rise followed a stellar 2015-16 Professional Cricket League campaign, where he scored 710 runs and took 23 wickets, including two fifers against Guyana.
In a West Indies team searching for quality all-rounders, Chase has proven he has what it takes to forge a successful Test career.
