About
Sandeep Lamichhane, a gifted wrist-spinner from Nepal, has emerged as one of the leading exponents of leg-spin bowling in the modern era. In an age where wrist spin has seen a revival post the retirement of legends like Shane Warne, Sandeep has played a pivotal role in bringing the art back into prominence.
He made headlines during the 2018 IPL auction, becoming the first Nepali cricketer to play in the world’s most prestigious T20 league. At just 17, he was signed by the Delhi Daredevils for INR 2 million, a major milestone for Nepalese cricket. His talent was initially recognized during the 2017 Hong Kong T20 Sixes, after which he was invited for trials and impressed against top-tier competition.
Sandeep’s international exposure began early. He was part of Nepal’s squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup Qualifiers and had already made waves in the 2016 ICC U-19 World Cup, where he claimed 14 wickets, including a five-wicket haul against Ireland.
In 2016, former Australian captain Michael Clarke noticed Sandeep’s talent in Hong Kong and invited him to play Grade Cricket in Sydney for Western Suburbs. There, under the guidance of Clarke, Shane Warne, and other cricketing greats, Sandeep honed his craft and gained invaluable experience in Australia’s domestic scene.
Sandeep further cemented his reputation in the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two in Namibia, where he was named Player of the Tournament, helping Nepal qualify for the World Cup Qualifiers for only the second time in its history.
Shortly after turning 18, he debuted in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, adding to his growing experience on the global T20 circuit. Known for his mature bowling, deceptive variations, and calm under pressure, Sandeep Lamichhane continues to be a key figure in T20 leagues worldwide and remains one of Nepal's brightest cricketing prospects.
