About
Sompal Kami is one of Nepal’s leading fast bowlers, capable of bowling at speeds close to the 140 kmph mark. He began his cricketing journey with Kathmandu Region No. 3 through the Nepali Cricket Fan Club and emerged as one of the standout performers in the Under-19 National Championship, which Kathmandu Region No. 3 went on to win. Kami enjoyed an outstanding tournament, making valuable contributions with both bat and ball, including scoring two centuries and producing several impressive bowling performances.
Despite his father migrating to Punjab for work, Kami’s passion for cricket never wavered. He continued to participate in various school-level tournaments and also featured in the Indian Premier Corporate League, further honing his skills.
Kami earned selection to the Nepal national team for the 2014 Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where he played six List A matches and claimed eight wickets, with best figures of 3/35. Later that year, he represented Nepal in the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, picking up four wickets in three matches, including a best performance of 2/13.
His rise continued in the 2014 ACC Premier League in Malaysia, where Kami emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets. His stellar campaign featured a career-best haul of 5/47 against Malaysia, earning him the accolade of best bowler of the tournament.
