About
Mitchell Starc is one of the most feared fast bowlers of the modern era, renowned for his express pace, lethal yorkers, and ability to dominate across formats. Hailing from Sydney, Starc’s cricketing journey took an unusual turn when a junior coach persuaded the tall teenager to abandon wicketkeeping and focus on fast bowling — a decision that would reshape Australian cricket.
Starc rose rapidly through the ranks, making his Sheffield Shield debut for New South Wales at 19. His breakthrough came in domestic one-day cricket, where he topped the wicket charts and earned national selection. After a challenging start to his Test career, Starc refined his skills through county cricket in England, returning as a more complete bowler.
From 2014 onwards, Starc established himself as Australia’s pace spearhead, highlighted by a sensational ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 campaign. He finished as Player of the Tournament with 22 wickets, helping Australia lift the title. That year also saw him break the 160 km/h barrier and top the global wicket charts.
Despite recurring injuries, Starc consistently delivered in major tournaments. He claimed a record 27 wickets at the 2019 World Cup, led Australia’s bowling in multiple Ashes series, and topped the wicket charts again in the 2023 Ashes. His contributions with the bat further enhanced his value as a genuine match-winner.
Starc has balanced international commitments with selective IPL appearances. After early stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore, he returned to the league in 2024, becoming the most expensive player in IPL history and playing a decisive role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ title win. He will represent Delhi Capitals in 2025.
Widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest fast bowlers, Starc’s legacy is defined by pace, precision, and performances on the biggest stages.
