About
Born in Khulna, Nurul Hasan is a technically sound right-handed wicketkeeper-batter whose international career has seen several stop-start phases — largely due to inconsistent performances and the presence of Mushfiqur Rahim, one of Bangladesh’s mainstays behind the stumps.
Highly rated for his glovework and leadership in the domestic circuit, Nurul made his T20I debut in January 2016 against Zimbabwe. He impressed with a quickfire 30 off 17 balls in just his third game, although Bangladesh lost that match. He later made his ODI debut in December 2016 against New Zealand, stepping in for the injured Mushfiqur. That same tour also saw him earn his maiden Test cap in Christchurch under similar circumstances.
Despite early promise, opportunities were limited, and after a modest start, Nurul disappeared from the international scene for three years (2018–2021). He forced his way back through consistent domestic performances and was handed leadership duties, captaining Bangladesh in T20Is during the absence of Shakib Al Hasan in 2022. Earlier that year, he had led his domestic side to a title in the Dhaka Premier League (List A format), further enhancing his reputation as a leader.
However, his stint as a finisher in the T20I side from 2021 to 2022 didn’t yield the desired returns. Nurul struggled for consistency and failed to make an impact in both the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups, eventually leading to his exclusion.
Still, Nurul’s resilience and strong performances at the domestic level kept him in contention. In 2025, after yet another strong domestic season, he earned a recall to the national side for the Asia Cup, marking another chapter in his determined pursuit of international success.
