About

Known as "The Fizz", Mustafizur Rahman is a crafty left-arm pacer from Khulna who burst onto the international scene with a sensational debut series against India in 2015. Just 19 at the time, he became only the second bowler in ODI history to claim two five-wicket hauls in his first two matches and remains the only player to take 13 wickets in a three-match ODI series.

Spotted early during age-group cricket in Satkhira, Mustafizur progressed through Bangladesh’s Under-17 and Under-19 setups, shining at the 2014 U19 World Cup with 9 wickets. He made his First-Class debut for Khulna in 2013–14 and finished the season with 26 wickets at an average of 19.08.

He made his T20I debut against Pakistan in April 2015 and quickly earned his ODI and Test caps. In his first Test, he took four wickets and became the first player to win Player of the Match awards on both ODI and Test debuts.

Mustafizur’s variations — particularly his slower cutters — became his trademark, and after a dazzling start in international cricket, he was snapped up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2016 IPL. He impressed with 16 wickets in 17 games and was named Emerging Player of the Tournament as SRH lifted the trophy. That same year, he starred in the T20 World Cup in India, bagging 9 wickets in 3 games, including a memorable 5/22 against New Zealand.

However, injuries became a recurring theme. A shoulder injury during his stint with Sussex in 2016 kept him out for six months, and he missed key series, including one against England. Despite these setbacks, Mustafizur continued to make comebacks — notably during Bangladesh’s 2017 tour of Sri Lanka, where he played a pivotal role across formats.

His performances fluctuated, with quiet outings in the 2017 Champions Trophy and a tough South Africa tour, but he returned to form at the 2019 ICC World Cup, finishing as Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker with 20 scalps in 8 matches, including his 100th ODI wicket.

In the IPL, Mustafizur became a well-travelled campaigner. After his successful stint with SRH, he moved to Mumbai Indians (2018), Rajasthan Royals (2021), and later Delhi Capitals (2022), consistently contributing when fit. His NOC was denied in 2020 due to national commitments, underlining his importance to the Bangladesh setup.

While his early years were electric, Mustafizur’s career has since been a story of brilliance interrupted by injuries. Still, his unique skillset, especially in white-ball cricket, makes him one of Bangladesh’s most valuable bowlers and a seasoned T20 asset around the world.
