Zafar Gohar's Six-Wicket Haul Powers Middlesex to Dominant Win Over Worcestershire

Zafar Gohar produced a match-winning spell of 6 for 31 as Middlesex secured a comprehensive 141-run victory over Worcestershire on the final day of their Rothesay County Championship Division Two clash at New Road.

The left-arm spinner's brilliance on a deteriorating pitch proved decisive as Worcestershire, chasing an imposing target, were bowled out for 216 despite a spirited resistance led by Ben Allison. The victory marked Middlesex's third win of the season and lifted them above Worcestershire in the closely contested Division Two standings.

Starting the final day under significant pressure, Worcestershire found hope through nightwatchman Ben Allison, who played an enterprising innings to keep the hosts in the contest. Displaying confidence and composure, Allison attacked the Middlesex seamers with a series of aggressive strokes, particularly through the leg side.

Alongside Gareth Roderick, Allison added a valuable partnership that frustrated the visitors. The pair brought up a fifty-run stand before Allison reached a well-crafted half-century from just 61 deliveries, raising hopes of an unlikely Worcestershire victory.

The home side appeared to be gaining momentum as Allison moved into the sixties and Middlesex struggled to make inroads. However, the match turned shortly before lunch when Ethan Bosch ended Roderick's stubborn 104-ball stay at the crease, providing Middlesex with a crucial breakthrough.

Worcestershire's problems deepened soon after when Matthew Waite was bowled by Sebastian Morgan, reducing the hosts to 155 for 7 and firmly swinging the match in Middlesex's favour.

Gohar continued to exploit the increasingly difficult batting conditions, claiming his fourth wicket when Ethan Brookes miscued a sweep shot and was caught at square leg. The visitors tightened their grip as Worcestershire's hopes of saving the match began to fade.

Young batter Henry Cullen showed resilience during only his second first-class appearance, helping guide the hosts through to tea alongside Tom Taylor. However, the task remained daunting, with Worcestershire still trailing by 166 runs.
